Greetings!

Greetings!

It's been a busy month for me.  Launching the new Block of the Month has involved a steep learning curve, but I think I'm ready for the launch on May 1st. It's very exciting!

John and I head out for a show in Coupeville, Washington in a week and a half, so I'm getting my fingers in shape again to prepare.

 Happy quilting,

Cathy

I've started a new hexagon quilt with 3/8" hexes.
Scraps plus greys, as part of my "Year of the Grey"
I've no idea where this is going, but I like it so far!

Block of the Month

It's time to subscribe to the Star and Plume Block of the Month, which starts May 1st.
Several people have signed up already for this 24 month project with 48 blocks and it's going to be fun.
You'll be able to follow each other's progress via the blog I've started.

I can't wait to see what colours everyone chooses to make their own version of the quilt.
To prepare the patterns, I'm making the blocks again, and I've chosen shades of grey as my palette this time.

Here's the first "Storm at Sea" block.

And here's the original quilt, using the yellow-red-blue palette.

To find out more, or to sign up for this great learning quilt, visit the website and follow the links to Block of the Month.

Flagstaff Arizona Celebrate Quilt Camp and Show
June 12-15, 2013

I am very excited to be teaching at the new Celebrate Quilt Camp and Show this year in Flagstaff!  It is June 12-15 in the cool pines of Flagstaff, AZ, near Sedona and the Grand Canyon.  I am offering some great classes (Notably, my Mock Mola Appliqué, and a Quilt Roll Cover to keep your quilts protected without folding them), and there are many other teachers and classes as well.  Check out the entire schedule and teaching staff, as well as special evening events (some are FREE) at the website at www.celebratequilts.com.

Daily classes with international and regional quilt teachers including Harriet Hargrave, Annie Smith, Carmen Geddes, Carrie Bloomston, Tammy Kelly, Sarah Whitney, Mary Dyer, Lee Fletcher, Judy Davis, and more!

I would love to have you join me at this fabulous event!

What I'm Working On

Needless to say, the preparation of the patterns for the Star and Plume quilt have been taking all my attention this month. It's one thing to make the quilt, but another thing entirely to explain how I made it! Here's another block in greys (with a little theme fabric for a zinger). I'm loving it!

Card Trick block

As you can see by the picture at the top of the newsletter, I am dabbling with my 3/8" hexagons, too.  Maybe I should do a "design-as-you-go" quilt this time?  Can I let go of the control enough to improvise my way through a whole quilt?  It's worth a try....

Upcoming Tours:

Our schedule is clear until April 15th in Coupeville, WA. I should be able to get a whole lot of quilting done by then!

In May, we will be doing a "busman's holiday" driving trip to the Yukon and Northwest Territories.  I have never been to the Yukon before.

NEW GIGS ANNOUNCED:
May 24th in Dawson City, Yukon
!
June 3rd in Yellowknife NWT!
there are other gigs in June, which you can see on the Tour Itinerary tab now.

John continues to organize our huge tour in 2014, again around the perimeter of the US and Canada. The confirmed gigs are up on the website already. He has just confirmed our very first appearance in West Virginia for June 2013!! We STILL haven't sung in Mississippi or Arkansas.  Help!

For details on any of these performances, please get in touch, or visit the Tour Itinerary page of the website where there are contact addresses for each performance.

Thank you for reading this newsletter.  Feel free to share it in its entirety.  If you have any suggestions of things you would like to hear about, please get in touch at cmiller@nucleus.com .
