Christmas Countdown!

This is a short newsletter, but an important one.  If you're looking for a last-minute Christmas present (either from someone who loves you very much, or to yourself!), please check out the announcement of a new cruise I'll be going on next September.

This has been a wonderful year of touring, singing, visiting friends and family, and creating.  After 14+ years as the Singing Quilter, I continue to be thankful for every moment I get to do what I love to do.  Not only were we able to visit our friends in Australia, the US and Canada this year during our 8 months of touring, but my work was featured for the first time in a gallery show.  What a thrill!

Thanks to all of you who keep in touch, send comments and pictures and emails and stories. I value your friendship and support. And thanks for still listening to my music. Sometimes I think I can hear you all singing along in your sewing room!

We have decided to considerably scale back our touring after 2016. No more big driving tours or months away from home.  I will be figuring out how to keep new songs coming (there are lots of ways to share online these days!).  The good news: there are still 2 years before then, and we can come to your guild (or come back) at some point during that time.

I hope, in this season of darkness in the Northern Hemisphere, that you are able to fill your heart and home with light and family and friends. Despite horrible things going on in the world, may we learn how to be kinder to each other and reach out to those people who may have different perspectives or challenges.

If this is the first newsletter from me you've seen, welcome!  I post them here on the website once a month or so, when there's something I think you'll be interested in. You can sign up for email notifications of new newsletters by sending me an email with "Subscribe" in the header.  If you'd like to follow our doings more often, join my Facebook "fan" page (link at the left) or the blog (where I often write about our travels).

To be removed from the email list, send an email to with "Unsubscribe" in the subject line.

2015 Aloha Quilt Cruise
September 19-October 4, 2015
Round Trip from Vancouver to Hawaii on the ms Star Princess

I'm thrilled to let you know that I'll be teaching (and singing) on another cruise in 2015!

This time, I'll be cruising with Brandy Lynn Maslowski, a fun teacher, quilter and host of Canadian Quilt Talk.
Together, we're putting together a terrific set of workshops for you!
We'll have lots of time aboard to fully indulge in our mutual passion, with EIGHT days of quilt classes!
Brandy Lynn already has sponsors lined up: Northcott Silks, Aurifil and Janome will all be helping out.

We have started a blog for this cruise at
That's where all the information about the itinerary, classes, extras, and more will be announced.

This is the perfect time to plan for a treat for yourself: 15 days of fun, fun, fun in the sun.

CD Baby December Sale!

CD Baby is continuing to offer customers ALMOST FREE SHIPPING during the month of December!

For the entire month, you can buy as many CDs as you want from CD Baby and get them shipped (domestic AND international) for only ONE CENT!

That means now is the time to load up on Christmas presents for the quilters on your list.
The CDs are only $20 apiece, and if you buy two or more, you'll get 20% off!

Also, did you know I recorded a Christmas CD before I became the Singing Quilter?
I worked with two friends to create a scripted concert that  toured for seven seasons across Canada.

The show was called "Two Thousand Years of Christmas"
It features some rare and wonderful songs from the Christmas  songbook, including originals from our own pens.
The CD is full of spine-tingling harmonies (and yes, they were very fun to sing!) and a folkie flavour.

Notable this year is the song "Christmas in the Trenches" by John McCutcheon, which I sang in the show.
It is about the Christmas truce the first year of WWI - 100 years ago, when the opposing sides met in No Man's Land and played a soccer game.
It's a very powerful song, and I was honoured to be able to sing it.

This CD is only available as a download, but it is still a favourite festive season CD for those who own it.
You can listen to the songs and order your download at CD Baby.

What I'm Working On

I'm about to finish off my projects for the year, looking forward to family taking over my sewing room/guest room for a week over Christmas. I've been working hard on lots of things, including the last few blocks of the Star and Plume Block of the Month. I have another few to go, but things are definitely wrapping up soon! I can't wait to see them all together in the finished quilt.

Upcoming Tours:

2016 will be our last year of doing big tours by car. We're going to considerably scale down our travels after that.  If you want us to come to your guild (or come BACK), please talk to your program person now so that we can fit you into our schedule.

Here are the confirmed gigs for the first part of 2015.  John is still booking for the spring in Ontario and the midwest of the US, and the fall down to Texas.  Let us know if you want us to come to you!

I'm VERY excited that we will be singing in Paducah for the very first time during the quilt festival in 2015. See you there?

In 2016 we'll be doing the last of our big circuits of North America, all the way down to Florida and up the Eastern Seaboard.  Maybe then we'll be able to set up something in our last two states: Mississippi and Arkansas.  Do you know any quilt guilds there?  We need to sing for them!

January 24-25 LITTLETON CO (near Denver) Colorado Quilting Council, Inc.
February 7-14 KONA HAWAII Quilting on the Beach retreat
March 20-21   OSHKOSH WI Fox Valley Technical College Sewing and Quilting Expo
