A Quilter's World

What Canadian Quilter said:

Another great gift for a quilting friend is a CD from our favorite singing quilter Cathy Miller.
Cathy has just released a third CD of her popular quilting songs entitled "A Quilter's World".
Her songs are great to listen to while quilting away the hours.
Her historical research is first rate and many songs deal with quilt history and tradition.

Daintry Chitaroni, Canadian Quilter Winter, 2004

And this from British Columbia's "Connections" magazine:

The new CD shares the traits of the earlier ones: moving lyrics and well-researched stories....
A Quilter's World is a welcome gift for your quilter friend and a treat for yourself.
Picture yourself in your sewing room, stitching the binding on another UFO
and listening to the heartwarming, funny and sad songs found in this CD.
It will make you feel even better about being a quilter!

The Shows

At today's guild meeting I had the pleasure of experiencing
one of the most enjoyable, entertaining, and inspirational programs
I have attended in a very long time.
Our guest was Cathy Miller and her husband, John, from Victoria, BC, Canada.

Brenda, Surrey, BC Canada May 2002

I believe many members of the audience (myself included) were wondering
what was in store in the afternoon session with Cathy Miller -
did she sing and quilt at the same time?
did she sing about the technique of quilting?
or did she make up songs about the quilts she had made?
We could not have predicted the truth - that she writes beautiful folk songs
about the wonderful world of quilting; its history, its humour and the passion she has for it.
All this and beautiful quilts too.

I was totally blown away by our last program in May with Cathy Miller, the singing quilter from Canada.
Wasn’t she marvelous?  I have heard nothing but great reviews
about what a nice way to end the year with such a delightful program.
I bought all her CD’s.  My favorite song is “My Masterpiece”.

An excellent evening of entertainment.

The singing quilter's strong, clear voice
weaves a musical tapestry of quilting stories
with elements of romance, history, comedy and sentimentality.

Then, the greatest pleasure of all - hearing folk singer Cathy Miller sing -
OH MY! WHAT A VOICE! YOU MUST HEAR HER!
She is a lovely woman, her voice is enchanting, her music is moving,
well-written, and based upon years of research into various historic
quilting stories and traditions.
I enjoyed her presentation because she gave background
information about the people in the song -
and then the song catches you off guard with the details,
beauty of her voice, and the great message she shares.
She also encourages the audience to sing the
chorus with her - it was GREAT!

For those of you who didn't make it to guild the night of the Cathy Miller concert,
all I can say is that you really missed out on a great concert...
I really enjoyed hearing about how she came about writing the songs that she sang...
I don't think anyone went away from this concert disappointed.

I admit to being less than enthused when I heard
that a folk singer was coming, but you completely changed my attitude!
Your singing is great, but your songwriting is amazing! You have really
wonderful lyrics, whether the song is funny or touching.
I was absolutely spellbound for your entire performance!

The Saturday night banquet at Jinny Beyer's 2001 Seminar in Hilton Head, SC
featured Cathy Miller from Victoria, BC. She had everyone in the group, both
men and women, quilters and non-quilters, all singing and humming along to
her folk songs in between their laughter and tears. What a warm and talented
individual Cathy is! I would highly recommend her to any quilting group
looking for a performer. Her CD belongs in every quilter's collection
(right next to the fabric stash!).

Cathy Miller is amazing...
Her stories to go with all those great songs were great.
I loved just the songs, but hearing her in person will make that CD even more special.

Your songs are wonderful, thought-provoking, sensitive and at times down-right funny!
Thank you for sharing your quilting experiences and for opening my eyes to the history of quilts.
I can't wait to do more research on quilting, and to finish those two quilts downstairs
that are just waiting for the binding!!!
See what an inspiration you are!

One Stitch at a Time CD

The two copies of Cathy's CD arrived yesterday.
I listened to it all through, and smiled and wept as I listened.
We are so fortunate to have such a talented lady as one of us
who understands quilters so well.

I just listened to your CD, "One Stitch At A Time", and I thought it was
some of the most beautiful music that I have ever heard; it has such
incredible depth and it's so poetic. I loved the music and the lyrics.
I was so touched. Keep up the GREAT work!!!

With best regards, your latest fan, Teresa.

I will enjoy listening again and again.

I heard a couple of cuts from your CD on CBC Radio and knew immediately that my wife, Brenda, would love it.
She took up quilting about 6 months ago, and even after such a short time
she is now as hopelessly addicted to it as the most unrepentant alcoholic is to the demon drink!

CULTURE CORNER:
This CD makes you laugh (at yourself -- I hadn't thought
of some of those hiding places in 100 Ways to Hide Your Stash) and cry
and be thankful, all at the same time. A good investment -- get a copy for
yourself and give one to a friend.

And two from Australia!

"One Stitch at a Time" is Cathy Miller's sixth recording, and a delight to listen to.
She sings of the joys and sorrows of quilters around the world, in this collection of serious,
humorous and sad songs, displaying her skills of painstaking research, a quilter's view of the
world we live in, and her perceptive ear for the way we say things.

Many of the songs include singable choruses, which will stay in the mind when the CD is finished,
and all the lyrics are printed in the accompanying booklet; this is beautifully produced, with
quilting decoration and photographs.

This is something very new and very different. It is a CD that contains a
collection of original songs about quilting and the history of quilting. Most of
the songs are both written and performed by Cathy Miller, a talented Canadian
folk singer with a lovely singing voice.
The CD takes the creativity of quilts in a new, different and delightful
direction.
